About this event

Part of HANCHER’S 2026–2027 SEASON Presented by HANCHER AUDITORIUM in collaboration with UNIVERSITY OF IOWA STRING QUARTET RESIDENCY PROGRAM Longtime friends of the School of Music and Hancher bring an all-Beethoven program. The Brentano String Quartet — known for its unique sensibility and probing interpretive style — returns to campus for a robust residency with School of Music students and a performance featuring the music of one of the great masters. It is a fitting program for a quartet that takes its name from Beethoven’s “Immortal Beloved,” Antonie Brentano. The concert will be presented in the beautiful recital hall in the Voxman Music Building. Program: Ludwig van BEETHOVEN: String Quartet No. 1 in F, Op. 18, No. 1 String Quartet No. 9 in C major, Op. 59, No. 3 String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 131 “Balance and intonation reach an almost unearthly level of perfection, yet there’s nothing inhuman about these American musicians.” — The Times (London) Brentano String Quartet website Photo: J.
