Bossa and Beyond: The Brazilian Jazz Experience

From the understated beauty of bossa nova to the driving pulse of samba and the freedom of jazz improvisation, this concert by the Muse Jazz Collective celebrates music that transformed the sound of both Brazil and America. Through the music of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Joao Gilberto, Stan Getz, Sergio Mendes, and other Brazilian innovators, we’ll discover a tradition built on listening and exchange — where African rhythms, Brazilian song, European harmony, and American jazz first encountered one another and created something new. This concert, held in the Vineyard church lobby at 1970 Grant Street, is part of a long-running Concord-based jazz series that is new to me but that three active Meetup members have independently recommended to me.
