Bobcatting Rim Vista Trail (Next Thursday)

Description: Bobcatting Rim Vista Trail Round Trip Hiking Distance: 5+ miles Round Trip Hiking Time: 3.5 hours Elevation: 6,630' to 7,900' Rating: Moderate+ Pace: Mellow Plus Please do not RSVP for this hike if you cannot hike up and down Atalaya in less than three hours. This helps us to stay together as a group enhancing the hiking experience for everyone. It is not about competition, but cooperation. COVID vaccination and compliance with CDC rules on quarantine and isolation are required (i.e., don't attend if you have Covid!). This is a group outing and participants are expected to stay with the group. No firearms or commercial solicitations. Hike Description: Rim Vista Trail is located 1.25 hours north of Santa Fe near Ghost Ranch. The trail is well-worn, with some loose rock, and ascends steadily thru a sparse juniper and pinon forest. There are nice views of Pedernal, Lake Abiquiu and the colorful, layered Ghost Ranch Red Rock formations through-out the hike, as well as colorful lichen covered rocks. The final 1/4 mile or so is steep and rocky, but otherwise the ascent is gradual enough not to present a big problem. The views from the top are splendid and we'll enjoy them while eating lunch before returning as we came. Rim Vista is a sticky mess when wet, so the venue could change depending on rain. What to bring: Sturdy hiking boots or shoes. Layers for warmth and water resistant outer wear. Water for a 3.5+ hour hike. Snacks and lunch Meeting Place: DEVARGAS. We will meet at Devargas Center, behind Albertsons but a little closer to the bowling alley. We leave promptly at the meeting time.
