The Kruger Brothers are internationally respected acoustic musicians known for blending bluegrass, folk, and classical influences into a sound that is both technically masterful and emotionally rich. Brothers Uwe Kruger (guitar) and Jens Kruger (banjo) were born in Germany and raised in Switzerland, where music shaped their lives from an early age. Influenced by artists like Chet Atkins, Doc Watson, and Bill Monroe, the brothers began performing publicly as children and later reunited in the late 1980s to form what would become The Kruger Brothers. Bassist Joel Landsberg joined in 1990, helping define the trio’s signature sound. In 1997, the band made their U.S. debut at MerleFest in North Carolina, where they were so well received they have been invited back every year since. Following years of extensive touring throughout the United States, the band relocated to North Carolina in 2003 and has since released more than twenty-five albums on their own label. Their work includes collaborations with symphony orchestras, string ensembles, and guest musicians, earning them induction into multiple halls of fame and recognition including the Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass. The current lineup includes Jonah Horton (mandolin), a North Carolina–based multi-instrumentalist whose improvisational approach adds a new dimension to the band’s evolving sound.
