About this event
Nine weavers from throughout Western North Carolina collaborated on a tapestry honoring the Blue Ridge Mountains. Susan Gaire came to other female weavers in Western North Carolina with an idea: Collaborate on a single image, with each artist weaving her own personality into their panel of the tapestry. This piece was designed in early 2025, and weaving took place between October 2025 and March 2026. Weavers were given a general color palette, size guidelines, and the placement of the three ridgelines that run continuously across the piece, but otherwise had full creative freedom to decide materials, technique and embellishment. The result is a nine-panel artwork that tells nine chapters of the same story. This one-of-a-kind, 7-foot-wide tapestry, inspired by the Blue Ridge Mountains. Along with Gaire, participating weavers are Jacqueline Fay, Jenny Zia, Kathy DeOrnellas, Anne Berg, Kathy Dennison, Madelaine Hairrell, Stephanie Lyon, and Betty Hilton-Nash.
