About this event
Calling all readers! The Bixby Book Club meets the second Tuesday of every month at 6pm. We read a variety of books, spanning the genres of contemporary, literary, and historical fiction, as well as non-fiction, biography, and classics. Didn’t read or finish the book? No worries! This is a no-judgement book club. New members are always welcome. This meeting will be held in the library’s Community Room, if available, or the Vermont Room. Plenty of copies of books are available at the circulation desk for all who would like to read one- for those attending book club as well as those reading on their own. They can also be reserved by emailing Martha at Martha.Sanborn@bixbylibrary.org View a list of 2026 reads here. The book for December is The Hobbit by J R R Tolkien. Book Description: In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort. Written for J.R.R. Tolkien’s own children, The Hobbit met with instant critical acclaim when it was first published in 1937. Now recognized as a timeless classic, this introduction to the hobbit Bilbo Baggins, the wizard Gandalf, Gollum, and the spectacular world of Middle-earth recounts of the adventures of a reluctant hero, a powerful and dangerous ring, and the cruel dragon Smaug the Magnificent.
