About this event
@ Explore the diverse habitats of Hobcaw Barony and the Tom Yawkey Wildlife Center, homes to every major coastal habitat found in South Carolina. Guided by staff and volunteers, participants will travel by bus to a variety of birding locations, including salt marshes, brackish and freshwater managed wetlands, mature longleaf pine forests, and the grounds of Bellefield Plantation. Along the way, expect opportunities to observe shorebirds, waterfowl, wading birds, woodland species, and an active Red-cockaded Woodpecker cluster, along with other woodpecker species and a variety of forest birds. This tour showcases the remarkable diversity of coastal South Carolina’s ecosystems and birdlife. Participants will need to dress for the weather, wear closed-toe shoes, and bring birding gear. Program is weather dependent. (Exertion level: High impact – standing, walking on uneven terrain) Reservations required. Please note that tour participants travel via a 12-person passenger bus on rustic roads comprised of sand and dirt. Often, the roads are extremely rough and rutted, a situation which will jostle riders on the bus. Although the staff at Hobcaw Barony tries to keep them smooth, due to changeable weather and other factors, the condition of the rural roadways cannot be guaranteed to be even. To access Yawkey Wildlife Center, participants will travel on a pontoon boat, accessed by floating docks. per person Add to calendar Google Calendar iCalendar Outlook 365 Outlook Live
