Bird Watching with Julia and Jack Rothman

Join us in the morning for an hour of bird watching with author Julia Rothman in celebration of her new book, Bird Anatomy. Bird Anatomy is a beautifully illustrated non-fiction book that looks at different types of birds, their parts, and their lives. This walk and talk will incorporate a bird watching checklist highlighting New York's bird residents and its' migratory visitors, and will be led by the author’s father, Jack Rothman. Julia Rothman has authored/illustrated over seventeen different books. She is also known for her illustrations in the New York Times, column Scratch with Shiana Feinburg and has illustrated in magazines like Vouge, The Atlantic, and The New Yorker to name a few. In 2023, she was awarded Helen Adelia Rowe Metcalf Visionary Award by the Rhode Island School of Design. Jack Rothman is the founder of City Island Birds, a birding community based in the Bronx that over the years has collected more than 300 participants. He leads bird walks through Pelham Bay Park where he has been observing birds since the early 1990s. This program is intended for bird lovers 6 and up with their caretakers. Not all parts of this walk may not be accessible with strollers, bikes, wheelchairs, and scooters as not all paths are paved. Registration is not required but highly encouraged! This is an offsite program. We will meet at the Endale Arch at the northern portion of Prospect Park.
