About this event
Readers, come babble about a different book on the first Saturday of each month at the Encino Branch Library. Our November Biblio Babble Book Club selection is The Merge by Grace Walker. Imagine a world in which you might never have to say goodbye to a loved one. Imagine instead that you can merge their hearts and minds with your own and share consciousness as one person. Faced with the impending deterioration of her mother Laurie, diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Amelia signs up to take part in an experimental merging process in which Laurie's ailing mind will be transferred into Amelia's healthy body and their consciousness blended as one. Soon Laurie and Amelia join a group of other participants planning a move to The Village, a rehabilitation center for those who have merged. Lucas plans to merge with his terminally ill brother Noah. Ben will merge with his pregnant fiancée Annie. Jay's merging partner is his addict daughter Lara. As they approach the final steps in the merging process, the women begin to question whether all is as it seems in The Village. The publisher calls The Merge "a personal story of love, family, and sacrifice, as well as a thought-provoking examination of the limits of control, resistance, and freedom in our modern world." No sign up required. Meets the 1st Saturday of every month from 2:00-3:00pm. Copies of the book are available at the Encino Branch Library reference desk or check out an e-version book or audiobook in Libby. Book Group & Literary; Adults, Older Adults
