KUmZ presents Beneath Our Hawaiian Skies: May Day is Lei Day in Waikiki Rooted in the legacy of Hawaii's kupuna (elders) and ali?i (royalty), the celebration highlights the enduring importance of lei-making, mele (music), and hula as expressions of identity and community. The program will feature award-winning performers including: · Na Kumu Hula: Karl Veto Baker and Michael Lanakila Casupang · Ikaika Blackburn: Grammy-nominated · Natalie and Iolani Kamauu: multi-Na Hoku Hanohano Award winners · Malie Lyman: great-granddaughter of legendary performer Genoa Keawe · Halau I Ka Wekiu: 2025 Merrie Monarch winners Everyone who attends is encouraged to WEAR A LEI, MAKE A LEI, GIVE A LEI, says Karl Veto Baker, Na Kuma Hula.
