Join us for an evening of stargazing and hands-on astronomy as part of the Bell Museum’s annual Statewide Star Party! This year, we are highlighting Ursa Minor (the Little Dipper)—Minnesota’s official state constellation. Gather with thousands of Minnesotans across more than 20 locations statewide to celebrate and explore our beloved northern night skies. Event Details Date: Friday, September 18 Main Observing Hours: 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM Cost: FREE Who Can Attend: Open to all ages and experience levels Equipment: No telescope required, a portable Unistellar Odyssey Pro telescope will be on site and Museum staff will point and shoot various celestial objects in the night sky (once it is dark enough)! What to Expect Each Star Party kicks off with a brief, beginner-friendly introduction to astronomy. Afterwards, representatives from the Bell Museum will be on site with high-powered telescopes to guide your night sky viewing and answer questions. Hands-On Activities & Crafts Stellar Beads: Create your own star-inspired bracelet. Paper Cup Planetarium: Build a portable projector to take the stars home. Stars in Motion: Discover how constellations shift throughout the night and year. Community Constellations: Explore cultural connections and stories behind Ursa Minor.
