Let the wild rumpus start! Come celebrate Banned Books Week and enjoy a movie at our library: Where the Wild Things Are (2009). The movie is rated PG but the book by Maurice Sendak is recommended for all ages. Why is banned? Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak was historically challenged and banned by some libraries and schools upon its 1963 release because critics and protective adults felt it was too dark, frightening, and psychologically damaging for young children due to its raw portrayal of childhood anger, rebellion, and supernatural themes. When this movie adaptation was released in 2009 it received the same kind of critics.
