AWAACC Youth Writers Camp 2026 at August Wilson Center for African American Culture in Pittsburgh, WV on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
The Youth Writers Camp is an inspiring and creative space for middle and high school students passionate about writing. This 5-session camp provides an opportunity to explore various forms of writing, from poetry and plays to short stories and songwriting, while connecting with contemporary issues like social justice and the literary legacy of August Wilson. Through discussions, reading, writing, and sharing, students will express themselves freely in a supportive and nurturing environment. Led by accomplished teaching artists Carla Knight and Dionna Spencer, the hybrid camp with virtual and in-person sessions, promises to offer a dynamic and enriching experience for young writers to hone their craft and deepen their understanding of the world around them. The camp culminates in an exciting in-person performance and reception, where students will have the opportunity to showcase their work and celebrate their creative achievements. Educators: Carla Knight and Dionna Spencer Registration is recommended for all sessions of camp, although students may sign up for individual sessions. Registration may be concluded early at the discretion of camp staff. The individual sessions are $30.00 each. The full camp bundle package is $125.00.
