Large Meeting Room. A poet and a firefighter: wild pursuits in the Santa Rita Mountains Authors Stephen Chaffee and Linda Strader will read from their books and answer questions from the audience. In Wild Ruminations, Chaffee captures the stillness, wonder, and spiritual renewal found along the trails of the Santa Ritas. From encounters with black bears, jaguars, rattlesnakes, hawks, and ravens to intimate reflections on loss, gratitude, and belonging, these poems invite readers into a deep attentiveness to the natural world. Linda is one of the first women hired on a fire crew with the U.S. Forest Service in the 1970s. Summers of Fire: A Memoir of Adventure, Love, and Courage is an Arizona to Alaska adventure story that honestly recounts the seven years Linda ventures into the heart of fires that scorch the land, vibrant friendships that fire the soul, and deep love that ends in devastating heartbreak.
