Auditions SFCM Pre-College
The SFCM Pre-College has earned a national reputation for providing outstanding musical training to young people. The early childhood program, for students as young as age 4, taps the natural desire for movement, that all children possess, to impart a deep responsiveness to music. As students gain experience, our curriculum integrates private lessons with small chamber music groups, a guitar orchestra, musicianship courses, weekly performance opportunities, and master classes with the guitar worlds finest international artists including Sergio Assad, Manuel Barrueco, Marcin Dylla, Judicael Perroy, William Kanengiser, David Tanenbaum, Meng Su, Benjamin Verdery, Jason Vieaux, and Andrew York. As a result, our Pre-College students have won many regional, national and international awards, including the Christopher Parkening Competition, Guitar Foundation of America International Youth Competition, the James Stroud International Competition and many more. In addition our students have frequently been featured on the national public radio program From the Top and have appeared on the televised GRAMMY Awards show. There is no expectation that our students pursue music professionally and many have attended the countries top academic institutions including Amherst, Bowdoin, Columbia, Harvard, MIT, Pomona, Princeton, Stanford, and Yale and are now working as doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs, lawyers, scientists and in a wide array of other professions, while still making music a core part of their lives. Students who have decided to pursue music professionally have been admitted to the finest collegiate music schools and conservatories in the world including the Curtis Institute, the Juilliard School, the Peabody Institute, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, the University of Southern California, and are now distinguishing themselves professionally.
