About this event
The 8th Juried Faculty & Alumni Art Exhibition will be open Thursday, August 13 through Thursday, October 29 in our Main Gallery of the Visual Arts building. An Artist Reception will be held on Thursday, September 3, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. in our Visual Arts building. Both the exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. The exhibition features 46 works by 25 faculty, staff, and alumni artists from Calhoun Community College and Athens State University. This year’s exhibition was juried by artist Jamey Grimes. Grimes earned degrees in Biology (BS) and Painting (BFA) from Birmingham-Southern College and an MFA in Sculpture from The University of Alabama. His collaborative interests focus on incorporating technology into sculptural installations, and his subject matter draws on scientific observations of the natural world. His work has been exhibited in more than 100 exhibitions across nearly 20 states with permanent installations in Alabama, Florida, Illinois, and Tennessee. Grimes is the recipient of the 2019 South Arts State Fellowship for Alabama, two Alabama State Council on the Arts Visual Arts Fellowships, and the Arts Council of Tuscaloosa’s 2015 Visual Arts Educator of the Year award. He also co-led the Flow Tuscaloosa initiative, a collaborative project supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Alabama State Council on the Arts, and other partners that promoted environmental stewardship and education through workshops and community programs focused on the Black Warrior River watershed and its historical relationship to the people in the Tuscaloosa area.
