The exchange of recognition, gratitude, and reciprocity for these gifts is just as important in a Brooklyn flat as under a birch bark roof.” – Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass Re-imagine a world rooted in regeneration and reciprocity with nature, equally accessible to all, rather than extraction and consumption! Open Source Gallery is pleased to present Art-Rooted at Gowanus Open Studios, which explores our ecological, historical, botanical, and cultural roots embedded in trees that require our collective care and love to preserve. Art in all media draws awareness to historical factors that have shaped current tree canopy disparities as well as creative solutions to achieve equitable canopy expansion in high-need neighborhoods. Originally presented at 6/15 Green for City of Forest Day, Art-Rooted has been made possible by Open Source Gallery and The Puffin Foundation.
