Join us for an online event with Smithsonian curator Carolyn Russo as she discusses her book, The Ascent of Rauschenberg. Discover the legacy and creative inspirations of iconic American artist Robert Rauschenberg (1925–2008), focusing on a central theme in his work: his fascination with flight. Known for his groundbreaking "Combines" and work across a variety of media, Rauschenberg explored flight through motifs including birds, aviation, spaceflight, and metaphors for his own life. Russo’s book features over 150 images—including lithographs inspired by the Apollo 11 launch—along with nine essays, archival photos, and personal papers.
