Andrew Rathbun: Gilmore After Dark

Andrew Rathbun: Gilmore After Dark

The party doesn’t stop after Gilmore Festival concerts end! Throughout this year’s Festival, keep the music going long into the night with Gilmore After Dark events at Crawlspace Theatre. Grab a drink or bite to eat and enjoy performances by exciting jazz and classical artists, including this year’s talented class of Gilmore Jazz Fellows, hosted by special guest saxophonist, composer, and bandleader Andrew Rathbun—who will also take the stage for performances of his own. Rathbun is a Toronto-born artist known for his depth of lyricism, authoritative swing, and compositional intelligence on tenor and soprano saxophones. He has recorded as a leader since the late 1990s with ensembles featuring artists such as Kenny Wheeler, Billy Hart, George Garzone, Bill Stewart, and Phil Markowitz. His music is rooted in post-bop jazz and informed by classical composition. Rathbun holds a Doctorate in Jazz Arts from the Manhattan School of Music and is Professor of Saxophone and Jazz Studies at Western Michigan University, while continuing to perform in New York and internationally.
