An interview with Sarita Sarvate, author of the memoir Midnight’s Daughter Join us in an evening of literary stimulation as Sarita Sarvate discusses her memoir Midnight’s Daughter with Elizabeth Stix. The book encapsulates her journey across continents in search of identity. Born after India’s independence from British rule, she was named after a freedom fighter yet fell prey to patriarchy. As a teenager, she became a caregiver when her mother suffered a mental breakdown and after she was pressured into an arranged marriage, escaped by entering graduate school at UC Berkeley. She bravely addresses cultural taboos and shows that she is human, relatable, and deeply empathic. Sarita is an award-winning journalist who has written for the LA Times, the Oakland Tribune, and the San Jose Mercury News. She has aired commentary on NPR and KQED FM and for twenty-five years, wrote the “Last Word” column for India Currents. Her memoir, Midnight’s Daughter, won the 2025 International Voices in Creative Nonfiction Competition. Sarita Sarvate, Author Sarita will be interviewed by Elizabeth Stix, the author of the story collection THINGS I WANT BACK FROM YOU. She has written for McSweeney's, Tin House, Boulevard, and elsewhere. Her work has been performed at Selected Shorts on NPR. Elizabeth Stix, Interviewer No registration required.
