About this event
In Western Washington, as across the nation, treaties are legally binding documents dictating the government-to-government relationship between Tribes and the United States federal government. Yet, the legacy of the Treaties is a litany of broken promises by the United States, and the inextinguishable fight by Native people to uphold their ways of life. Join local tribal historians and leaders for a discussion of the histories and futures of the Treaties, and learn how Native peoples continue to exercise and fight for their rights and sovereignty. If you’re an educator, come early for the MOHAI Educator Mixer starting at 6pm. Kick off the new school year with fellow educators and learn about field trips, portable museum, and classroom resources in a casual, drop-in setting. Generous support for this program is provided by The Hugh and Jane Ferguson Foundation and Madeline and Richard de Sam Lazaro. CART captioning is available during the program. In addition, ASL Interpretation and a limited number of Assistive Listening Devices are available upon request. For more accessibility support, contact programs@mohai.org two weeks before the program.
