America 250: Overland Trails - The Children on the Trail

About this event

With over 352,000 emigrants traveling the Oregon, Mormon or California trails, one in five were under the age of 16. Many of these youth kept journals. Renae Hunt from Humanities Nebraska will discuss how these children traveled and relate some of the stories from their journals. Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with the Omaha Public Library! This year we’re celebrating the ways America has changed over the last 250 years through a year-long lecture series. Each month we’ll offer a different presentation from local experts on American history, culture, or experience. This is a free event for patrons of all ages. Registration is encouraged but not required. Humanities Nebraska (HN) provides major funding for this program. HN receives support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Nebraska State Legislature, the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, and private donations. All Omaha Public Library locations are wheelchair accessible. Need sign language interpretation or other accessibility assistance for this event?
