About this event
On All Souls Day priests have the special privilege of offering 3 Mass intentions for the dead. This privilege was granted during the First World War by Pope Benedict XV. One Mass intention must be for All the Faithful Departed, another is to be for one deceased person at the discretion of the celebrant, and a third intention is prescribed as the intentions of the Holy Father. At the time Pope Benedict XV asked for this, it was to pray for all who had died in the Great War, and since the intentions of November 2nd must be for the deceased, many maintain this intention is to pray for all who have died in time of war. At the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the regular weekday schedule for public Mass will be followed. 8:00 a.m. - Confessions. 8:30 a.m. - Low Mass in Latin, according to the 1962 Missal. 11:45 a.m. - Confessions. 12:15 p.m., a Mass for All the Faithful Departed will be offered in English. 6:00 p.m. a Solemn High Latin Mass will be offered, with Absolution at the catafalque after Mass. We encourage the faithful to remember their deceased loved ones by enrolling them in the Shrine's Divine Mercy Guild, and these intentions are remembered at the 12:15 p.m. Mass on the first Wednesday of each month. A person may be enrolled annually or perpetually. May all the faithful departed rest in peace and rise in glory!
