Advancing Global Learning at UAB - CTL Global Awareness Building Block Presented by Melissa Hawkins, PhD A Center for Teaching and Learning event 3 Wednesdays: Sept. 30, Oct. 7, Oct. 14, 11:30 am -1:00 pm Wed., Sept. 30 - Intro to Teaching with COIL - Description: COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) is a teaching approach that connects students from institutions in different countries for collaborative projects embedded in existing courses, spanning 5-8 weeks during the semester, that are completed through online technology, either synchronously, asynchronously, or both. Incorporating COIL can introduce motivating international dimensions to a course and also give opportunity for high-impact learning, offering clear benefits in both intercultural competency outcomes and career readiness. Join us for this short, informative session on what teaching with COIL is like, why you might want to consider implementing it in your classroom, and how the CTL can support you in it.Wed., Oct. 7 - Infusing Your Course with Intercultural & International Learning Description: Preparing our students for engagement in our global community is supported when we include international and intercultural content in our courses. Whether you want to forward an international emphasis in a unit or assignment, build a new course on an international topic, or add intercultural learning activities to a course, this workshop will review the possibilities for promoting international learning and intercultural growth throughout the disciplines.Wed., Oct. 13 - Global Learning in Action: Experiences of 3 Teaching FacultyPlease note: This workshop is designed for current UAB teaching faculty, instructors of record, academic advisors, and other student-facing staff members.
