Adult Book Discussion: Some Strange Music Draws Me In

Room 201B. In September, the Cupertino Library Book Discussion Group will talk about the coming of age novel Some Strange Music Draws Me In: A Novel by Griffin Hansberry (2024). After their mother’s death in 2019, Max and his Fox-News addicted sister work to clear out their family’s home in working class Swaffham, Massachusetts. Max is currently suspended from his teaching job at a privileged private school in Massachusetts after having been accused of using transphobic language against students. Ironic, considering that Max grew up as Melanie. Stuck in a town that is less than accepting of its LGBTQIA+ community, Max reminisces about 1984, and his earlier friendship with Sylvia, a bold transgender woman who helped the girl he was then find the courage to make her transition. The Adult Book Discussion Group meets twice a month on the third Wednesday morning at 11 am, and the third Thursday Evening at 7pm. All meetings are held in room 201B. Adults of all ages are welcome.
