A Relationship, Not Just a Resource

Join Gabriann Hall, an enrolled member of the Klamath Tribes, as she shares her personal perspective through the traditions of Indigenous storytelling and lived experience. This presentation explores how the history of treaties, Termination, and Restoration continues to shape the Klamath Tribes today, providing important context for understanding contemporary issues. The presentation will provide historical context before exploring contemporary issues affecting the Klamath Tribes, including treaty rights, Indigenous values of stewardship and honorable harvest, the removal of the Klamath River dams, salmon restoration, and the ongoing challenges of caring for the land and water. Gabriann will conclude by highlighting current restoration efforts and discussing how Indigenous knowledge and stewardship continue to shape the restoration and long-term health of ecosystems for future generations. About the Presenter: Gabriann Hall is an enrolled member of the Klamath Tribes and was born and raised in the Fort Klamath Valley, where she attended school in Chiloquin, Oregon. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Ethnic Studies, a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies, and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Oregon State University. Gabriann currently lives in Central Oregon, where she teaches Ethnic Studies and Native Studies at Central Oregon Community College. Drawing on both her academic background and her lived experience as a tribal member, her work focuses on Indigenous history, tribal sovereignty, land stewardship, and the ongoing relationship between Native communities and their traditional homelands. Through her teaching and public presentations, she seeks to foster a deeper understanding of Indigenous perspectives, the history of the Klamath Tribes, and contemporary issues affecting Native communities.
