We cordially invite the community to join us for a documentary screening, followed by a Q&A with Cuitlahuac Arreola Martinez and Matthew Olmos. The Q&A will be facilitated in English and/or Spanish, depending on who attends. As one of Mexico's 68 Indigenous languages, Nahuatl has over 1.6 million speakers based on 2020 data. It is actually the second most spoken language in the country, after Spanish. However, many of these languages face the risk of disappearing due to language shift - a process where Spanish replaces them due to marginalization and discrimination. This event is a collaboration with the library and the Speaknahuatl.com collective. El náhuatl es una de las 68 lenguas indígenas de México y cuenta con más de 1,6 millones de hablantes según datos de 2020. De hecho, es la segunda lengua más hablada del país, después del español. Sin embargo, muchas de estas lenguas están en riesgo de desaparecer debido al desplazamiento lingüístico, un proceso en el que son sustituidas por el español, como resultado de la marginación y la discriminación.
