A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine

Join us next month as we read A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine, a science fiction mystery filled with political intrigue, cultural clashes, and questions of identity. When Mahit Dzmare arrives at the capital of a powerful interstellar empire to serve as ambassador for her small, independent home, she discovers that her predecessor has died under suspicious circumstances. As she investigates, she must navigate dangerous political rivalries while trying to protect her home from the empire’s growing ambitions. Winner of the 2020 Hugo Award for Best Novel, this book offers plenty to discuss about power, belonging, assimilation, and what it means to preserve your identity in a world that wants you to change. All are welcome, whether you're a first-timer or joining us again from previous meetings. Come ready to share your thoughts, favorite characters, and theories! The meeting will be at the Panera Bread location at 1191 E Ogden Ave, Naperville, IL 60563 (near the H Mart and Costco) on Sunday, November 15th from 2:30-4:00pm. Please RSVP so we can plan accordingly. Hope to see you there!
