4/23 – Klamath Dam-River Restoration Project with Biologist Shari Anderson

Biologist Shari Anderson will discuss the Klamath Dam Removal Project – one of the largest river restoration efforts ever undertaken. Shari will explore the many complexities involved including coordination among dozens of partners, unique technical and biological challenges, and the practical solutions developed along the way. Drawing on her experience in the Basin, Shari will also share what we are seeing as natural processes resume, including early ecological responses and emerging management questions. The presentation will look ahead to salmon repopulation in the Upper Basin – what we’re learning, the role of hatcheries, and the challenges that remain as partners work toward long-term recovery. BIO: Shari Anderson grew up in the Rogue Valley and holds a B.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife Science from Oregon State University and an M.S. in Fisheries Science from Cal Poly Humboldt. She spent the first 20 years of her career as a federal fisheries biologist, primarily with NOAA (National Oceanic & Atmospheric Association) Fisheries, where she studied coho salmon in the Klamath River and played a key regulatory role in the historic Klamath Dam Removal Project. Today, Shari is the principal of her consulting firm, Lazuli Eco, where she continues to work throughout the Klamath Basin—monitoring habitat recovery, restoring habitat on private lands, and supporting salmon reintroduction into newly reconnected reaches of the river. She lives in Jacksonville with her two young boys.
