About this event

Join us at Concourse Hall for our Contra Dance Party! Live music, dancing, and a welcoming and energetic group of people - what more could you ask for? New and experienced dancers welcome! A free beginner lesson is provided before every dance. This is a community event that has many other attendees in addition to those registered for this Meetup event. We're so excited to have you join us! **Location:** Concourse Hall (4531 Concourse Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48108) **Date:** Saturday, October 10 **Time:** New dancer lesson 7:00 pm, dancing from 7:30 – 10:15 pm. Hang out after the dance and join us for an after party with snacks and kerry sets, taught and called by River Abel. (For those who have not encountered them before, kerry sets are lively, fast-paced traditional Irish set dances that are danced in a square formation with four couples.) **Cost:** Pay what you can, $10 donation suggested. **Caller:** Visiting callers from the Country Dance and Song Society (CDSS) **Music:** Grant Glick & Friends **What is contra dancing?** Contra dancing is a folk dance made up of long lines of couples. It has mixed origins from English country dance, Scottish country dance, and French dance styles in the 17th century. The footwork is simple, and all dances are called so that you don’t have to memorize any steps. **Beginners are always welcome!** You don’t need a partner or any previous dance experience to enjoy this event. At 7pm there will be a new dancer instruction so newcomers can learn the basics before the live music starts at 7:30. Anyone can ask anyone else to dance; experienced dancers are happy to help new people. Be sure to wear loose fitting clothes, comfortable shoes, and come ready to move! **What to bring:** * A water bottle * Clothes that you’re comfortable moving in * Comfortable, clean shoes **Cost:** All of our dances are pay-what-you-can events! A $10 donation is suggested to cover costs of the hall, caller, band & sound technician, but please pay…
