2nd Assault on the Hoyt Magnolia Trail

Every spring, the Hoyt Arboretum magnolias launch a brazen attack - a full-scale floral assault designed to dismantle Portland's hard-earned winter pessimism, one bloom at a time. Hundreds of trees. Simultaneous detonation. Zero remorse. It is, frankly, working on most of Portland. Not us. We have worked too hard on our winter pessimism to let it go now. We put out the call and the first hike sold out immediately. The waitlist refused to stand down. Now two battalions of rain-soaked Portlanders are marching straight into the front lines - down the Hoyt Magnolia Trail, into the full bloom, surrounded on all sides by scores of trees exploding with color. This will be a learning hike - we're going deep into the fascinating science of how flowers and their pollinators pull off this yearly emotional ambush, and pulling the full shaded history of this trail into the light. Come prepared to learn things that will permanently change how you see a flower. Bring your device, fully charged. This hike is interactive and we have invested significantly more time in this presentation than the magnolias deserve. Your winter gloom did not survive six months of Portland rain just to be undone by some flower. That gloom is an asset. We need it in the field.
