1890 Midwest Hallowed Event

Adults and children ages 10 and older – $10 Children ages 3 to 9 – $5 Children ages 2 and under free This event is designed to represent how Halloween would have been celebrated in the Midwest during 1890. Trick or Treating didn’t begin until around the 1920’s however simple costumes did which is described below. This will be a day of celebration with period games for all ages, kids crafts, pony rides, spooky storytelling (will have scheduled times), bonfires, and music. If kids want to dress up period style here are a few fun ideas: wearing clothes inside out or deliberately large was very popular. Clothing was plain and mostly solid. No large prints. Common colors were tan, white, blue, brown, and black. ghost (white sheet with eyes cut out) mask made of paper or cloth. Was only worn to hide ones face. Mask was worn with period clothes. **Each child who wears a “period outfit” from one of the ideas above, will receive a small gift.
