About this event

Planning for next year’s Poetry Palooza is well underway. In celebration of the upcoming event, local media personality Mike Pace will present an evening of poetry reading including his original work and a sampling of poetry by the poets who will be featured at the annual festival. He will read from works by poets Pádraig Ó Tuama, Kahula Kim, Donika Kelley, Matt Mason, Henry Morray, and National Youth Poet Laureate Daniel Umemezie. Mike Pace is a well-known media personality here in Des Moines. In his 30-plus-year career, Mike has represented hundreds of companies, both locally and nationally, as an on-camera spokesman, narrator, emcee, and speaker. He has performed as an actor in numerous corporate films and videos and was named Best Actor recently at the Iowa Motion Picture Awards for a film and received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the IMPA. Mike feels so lucky to have had a father who read poems and short stories and sang to him and his sister until they were teens. He has written countless corporate and advertising scripts in his career and is grateful to be able to write with his own agenda, now that he’s mostly retired. He writes meditations, poems and short stories and dabbles in screen plays. His book, Dreams and Detours…Reflecting on the Souvenirs of a Lifetime was published in 2013. This event is cohosted by Poetry Palooza. Mark your calendars for the 2027 Poetry Palooza which will be held April 30-May 1 at the State Historical Museum of Iowa.
