Beginner-to-Intermediate instruction Our focus is on foundation and bridging the gap between "Where do my hands go?" and the "moving meditation" experience of allowing qualities we have developed to express without intent: "wu wei" or "non-doing." Learn how to improve posture, mobility, and coordination, release stress, and unlock health benefits from the first class! Basic Skills & "opening" The first 15-30 minutes of class, depending on the amount of instruction required (\~10 minutes at home with the follow-along video!). This foundational practice will ingrain principles, proper alignment, and true release (relaxation around structure), so even if you aren't feeling your best before class, you'll feel great by the end! The warmup itself is your first 100-day challenge, after which you may continue this practice or replace it with standing meditation. "Gong fu" (kung fu) is any skill that is developed through diligent practice. Just like going to the gym to build muscle, the way to cultivate health through Tai Chi is to practice! Modified 24 form A "competition" or "Wushu" taolu (form/kata) created to standardize Tai Chi for teaching to a broader, modern audience. I use this platform in class to explore Yang Chengfu's 10 Essential Principles, the concept of "six harmonies," and more because it takes less than half the time of the traditional Yang 108 to learn or perform. In daily practice, it gives us a metric to understand how we are developing in the art overall. Classes are free, with a suggested donation of $10, if you are so inclined. Cash or Paypal, please! Proceeds support teaching props, business overhead, and continued education. Please don't feel pressured to donate! The goals in hosting this group are to spread the art and its' benefits and to practice with like-minded community.
