Wednesday Evening Hike – Tony Knowles Coastal Trail to Earthquake Park at Coastal Trail at Westchester Lagoon in Anchorage, AK on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
Join us for a beautiful summer evening hike along Anchorage’s iconic Tony Knowles Coastal Trail! We’ll meet at Westchester Lagoon and head south along the paved Coastal Trail to Earthquake Park, where we’ll take a short break before returning to the lagoon. This route offers incredible views of Cook Inlet, Sleeping Lady (Mount Susitna), the Alaska Range on clear days, and the Chugach Mountains. Keep your eyes open for moose, bald eagles, waterfowl, and—if we’re lucky—beluga whales in the inlet. Earthquake Park commemorates the devastating 1964 Good Friday Earthquake, and the unique landscape along the trail is a reminder of the dramatic changes that reshaped this area. (Alaska Center for Conservation Science) We’ll maintain a comfortable, social pace while covering approximately 6.2 miles round trip, making this a perfect after-work workout. Difficulty: Easy Please bring: * Water * Comfortable walking or hiking shoes * Layers for changing weather * Bug spray (recommended) Dogs are welcome if they are friendly, under control, and cleaned up after. As always, hike at your own risk. I look forward to enjoying a beautiful summer evening on one of Anchorage’s most scenic trails with everyone!
