Sunday La Jolla Shores Beach Walk, 2-3 miles

Let’s get together for a lovely morning walk at La Jolla Shores Beach. Be sure to wear shoes that you don't mind getting wet and/or are waterproof. There is an area by the Scripps Pier with a shallow running stream of water that we'll have to cross. Your feet may get wet. But be prepared for an alternative route of street walking if the tide is too high for a 3 mile walk on the beach. We'll decide when we meet. We'll meet on the boardwalk by the lifeguard station next to the (free) public parking lot, then go down to the shore and walk north on the hard-packed sand past the pier until we get to the rocks and boulders that obstruct the path. We'll turn around at that point and then walk south to the Marine Room restaurant and then turn back north again to the boardwalk/parking lot where we started. If the tide is too high for the beach, we'll still meet at the lifeguard station and walk north on the beach until we reach the stairs by Caroline's restaurant. We'll take the stairs and continue our walk up the hill above the beach. We'll turn around after half an hour and return to the lifeguard station. This is a more strenuous walk because of the uphill portion. Plan on walking about 3 miles round trip for an hour on either route. Anyone may peel off and end their walk at any point. THIS IS AN Ecological Reserve and Marine Life Refuge SO NO COLLECTING of shells, rocks, etc from the beach! Thank you! The parking lot is free, but fills quickly and patience is needed. You can park on the street as well. We will be heading out promptly at 8:30. Optional coffee after the walk.
