"Network" at Davis Theater in Chicago, IL on Thursday, July 30, 2026.
As part of Art House Theater Day, the Davis theater will be showing a 4K restoration of Sidney Lumet's 1976 film "Network", one of the greatest satires ever made. A story about a news anchor who goes crazy on the air and the station that keeps him there for ratings and controversy, the film is astonishingly perceptive - ahead of its time not only about TV but even more relevant to the 'social media' engagement-driven landscape of today. Features an incredible collection of actors (Robert Duvall, William Holden, a perfectly-cast Faye Dunaway), with two unusual Oscar wins (Best Actor for Peter Finch awarded after he died, Best Supporting Actress for Beatrice Straight in a single scene!) After the screening, we'll had to a nearby place (most likely the Daily Bar on 4560 N. Lincoln) to talk about what the movie got right (or wrong) over the past 50 years since its release. Tickets are $15 and you can pick them up in advance from this link: https://davistheater.com/movies/network/
