Huntsville Green Thinks: Next Step Farms

Every month people who love the environment meet up at informal sessions formerly known as Green Drinks. This has been changed to Green Thinks to ensure everyone feels welcome, no drinking required. There’s always a slightly different crowd, making Green Drinks an organic, self-organizing network. No need to register, just come as you are! We meet on the Clinton St patio of Yellowhammer Brewing, weather permitting. This month we welcome Robin Kramer of Next Step Farms. Founded in 2019, Next Step Farms is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering adults with lifelong intellectual disabilities by providing the tools, experiences, and support needed to live as independently as possible. The organization was founded by Robin Kramer, a retired special education teacher with more than 30 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities. Throughout her career, Robin witnessed the significant gap in meaningful educational and vocational opportunities available to adults after they aged out of the school system. Determined to create a program that focused on continued learning rather than simple supervision, she established Next Step Farms to provide purposeful, hands-on experiences that build confidence, independence, and lifelong skills. Since its founding, the organization's mission has remained steadfast: to provide adults with lifelong intellectual disabilities the tools and skills needed to live as independently as possible using a small family farm as the educational setting. While the organization has expanded its programs and services to meet growing community needs, its commitment to individualized instruction, personal growth, and community inclusion has remained unchanged.
