“He’s worth ten million dollars.” Money is the the unit by which we measure much of what happens in much of our lives, but we often avoid the issue. We paradoxically dismiss its value to us while it dominates much of how we live nonetheless. Money often has no practical value in and of itself. So why is it so important? This conversation intends to discuss modern concepts of money and its historical origins, including emergence of cryptocurrency and the disruptive nature of “ones and zeroes” as a store of value. The first hour of the session will be a lecture about the history of barter, commodities, fiat currency and cryptocurrency. The second half will be an open discussion about these subjects.
