Floating Words presents: Poets Jane Shoenfeld & Mike Burwell

The Floating Words Poetry Reading Series @ VITAL SPACES, 3140 Cerrillos POETRY + COMMUNITY = FLOATING WORDS Jane Shoenfeld Jane Shoenfeld moved to Santa Fe, NM in 1987, escaping the grid of NYC. As a poet who is also a painter, many of the poems she writes are in response to art. Jane’s art studio is on the other side of the door from the computer where she writes her poems. Petals in the Tunnel, her first collection of poetry and paintings, was published in 2022. Her poem “Angels in the Dark” won honorable mention in the Tuliptree Anthology Stories That Need to Be Told and “Harry’s Table” received an honorable mention from the Santa Fe New Mexican. She has published in numerous journals including Santa Fe Literary Review, Sin Fronteras, Writers Without Borders, and The Taos International Journal of Poetry and Art. Jane’s pastel paintings based on Yeats’ poem “The Second Coming” were displayed in an exhibit at the Visual Arts Center in the Santa Fe Community College in 2022. Jane organized and taught residential workshops at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu for 30 years and Art Therapy and Creative Process for 15 years at the former College of Santa Fe. Although no longer part of academia, she enjoys teaching landscape painting in the spring and summer Subsidized residencies at The Virginia Center for Creative Arts, Jentel Arts in Wyoming and Dorland Mountain Arts Colony in Southern California. have been invaluable. Her poem “Pastel Criminal at an Artist Colony” was written during one of her art residencies. Mike Burwell Mike Burwell has lived in New Mexico since 2012 and in Arroyo Seco north of Taos since 2013. He moved here after 30 years in Alaska after retiring from two decades as a technical editor for the Department of the Interior and a creative writing instructor at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
